Patrick Daniel’s surprise Enbridge exit

Six months ago, Patrick Daniel, 65, said he had no plans to retire. On Monday, the board of directors of Enbridge Inc., the Calgary-based pipeline company, said the long-time president and CEO will leave before the end of the year and named Al Monaco, 52, to succeed him. Daniel was named last fall as Caldwell Partners’ Outstanding CEO of the Year for 2011. Under his leadership in the last decade Enbridge’s share price grew by 250% and the company’s market value to $30.1-billion from $6.8-billion.
