About Christoph
Dr. Christoph Themel is a partner in Caldwell’s Healthcare & Life Sciences Practice and a member of the firm’s London team. He advises boards, investors, and senior leadership teams on executive and non-executive appointments, leadership assessment, and succession planning across the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and animal health sectors. Christoph brings deep experience supporting complex, global organizations as they navigate leadership transitions, organizational design, and long-term talent strategy.
Experience
With more than 20 years of experience in executive search and leadership advisory, Christoph is a trusted advisor to big and mid sized pharmaceutical companies, family-owned enterprises, private equity firms, and portfolio company leadership teams across Europe, the United States, and Asia Pacific. He is particularly known for his ability to partner closely with shareholders and management teams on C-suite succession, senior-level development, and organizational effectiveness initiatives. His work is characterized by a thoughtful, relationship-driven approach and a strong focus on aligning leadership capability with business strategy and culture.
Christoph has extensive experience delivering executive search, management appraisal, and leadership development engagements in complex and evolving environments. He partners with clients to identify leaders who bring the right expertise while fostering cultures of inclusion, innovation, and impact.
Prior to joining Caldwell, Christoph was a partner in the Healthcare & Life Sciences Practice at Heidrick & Struggles, based in London. Earlier in his career, he was a partner at a boutique executive search firm specializing in life sciences, with offices in London and Berlin.
Education
Christoph holds a PhD in political sciences and a master’s degree in educational sciences and psychology from the University of Vienna. He is a native German speaker, fluent in English, and has knowledge of French.
